Discover personalised news with the CPN app!
The CPN project is excited to welcome news readers to experience and test news personalisation with the CPN app. As part of our research project on news personalisation, we have developed a mobile news application that creates a personalised news offer based on your reading habits.
Curious to see what a news feed based on your interests looks like? Test our news application, let us know what you think, and help us to improve the app!
Personalised news content from trusted news sources:
Deutsche Welle (English), VRT (Dutch), Dias (Greek)
News readers will be able to test the CPN recommender during an open pilot, starting today, with news content in the language of their choice - English, Dutch or Greek - from consortium partners Deutsche Welle, VRT and Dias who have made their content available for the pilot.
How to test the CPN app (Android only)

(The app is currently only available for Android mobile phones.)
The open pilot is available in English, using Deutsche Welle content. Make sure you choose Deutsche Welle as a news source in the registration.
If you’d like to read news content in Greek or Dutch, we are also running pilots in those languages:

Feedback
You can install the application on your mobile phone and check the news whenever you want. During the test period, we might from time to time ask you to give comments on the CPN app - feedback will be gathered via email and push notifications in the app. Thanks to the feedback from our testers, we will be able to improve and update the app and its recommendation software. As we also welcome media organisations to use the CPN software to personalise their own content, the feedback from readers is crucial in building a better personalised news experience.
F.A.Q
Q: How long will the pilot last?
A: The pilot starts on 3 February and will continue until 9 March. During this time you can use the app freely – however the more you use it, the better the results of the personalisation algorithm will be.
Q: The articles in “Your News” stream don’t seem personalised. Is there a problem?
A: It is normal that in the beginning the recommended articles do not seem relevant to you, since the personalisation recommender doesn’t know your interests yet. However, the more you use the app, and the more indicate articles as “interesting” / “irrelevant”, the better the personalisation algorithm will be able to present articles based on your interests.
Q: I used the CPN app during a previous pilot. Can I use the same app and profile again?
A: If you participated in an earlier pilot, you will have to 1) update the CPN app, and 2) register as a new user.
Q: The app is not working, who should I contact?
A: If you have issues using the app, please let us know by using the feedback feature of the CPN application, or email us here.
Q: What will happen after the pilot is finished? Will I be able to continue using the app?
A: The app may stay available also after the pilot, however it might not be maintained and updated with new content after the pilot ends.
Q: What happens to my profile and usage data during and after the pilot?
A: All user profiles and usage data will be deleted after the pilot ends.
